floats in a broken warehosue
a hearse that got jacked.
pastor hunter's community center - he bought the spot a week before the hurricaine, it was completely submerged in water, but hopefully salvagable.
irony
this is what toxic flood water does to car paint.

Taken in Jackson Square during a rally staged by Sacred Heart Highschool. The girls were there to demand the installation of Category Five Levees. The teachers informed me that several of the students had lost their homes in the flood. When asked, the teachers and organizers emphasized that the event was a demonstration and a rally, not a protest. When I mentioned that they chose the same day Bush was scheduled to arrive in New Orleans for the first time since the disaster, and explained that the news media the night before had noted that crowds of "angry people" were likely to greet him, they denied being those "angry people". Instead they choose to be mild. Bush did not end up making any public appearances in N.O.

Barge

This is the barge that broke the levee in the lower 9th ward. It is huge: the brownish base is at least 15 ft. tall. If you are crossing over the industrial canal (going towards the lower 9th) on the N. Claiborne bridge it is to your left, near Common Ground's "No Demolition" protest house/distribution center, where some organizers are currently residing.
Fire in the Lower 9th (taken from across the industrial canal)

This fire burned all night and left a stream of toxic smoke billowing north-west. The rubble was still smoldering in the morning.
